Recent study shows upwards of 75% of American women do not know their HIV status. The number of infected women living in the US has tripled since 1985; and AIDS is now the No. 1 killer of black women between 18 and 34.
As President Obama recently said, “We often speak about AIDS as if it’s going on somewhere else. But often overlooked is the fact that we face a serious HIV-AIDS epidemic of our own. Right here in Washington, DC, and right here in the United States of America.”
The recent National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on March 10 published programs in support of women seeking HIV counselling and testing. There are still events in some US locations until April 10th. See more here.
